REMOVER S-600
High performance skimmer
The skimmer is, at present, the most effective method for the purification of water for both Tropical and Mediterranean sea-tanks.
The skimmer permits removing organic components, as fish excrements and food residuals, from sea water. In this way the organic components are subtracted from the natural cycle of nitrogen oxidation, with the result of a strong reduction of pollutants (e.g. nitrate and phosphate) accumulation. Actually, nitrate and phosphate, even if present at very low concentrations, disturb coral growth, favouring algal proliferation, while, at higher concentration, are also toxic for fishes and invertebrates. To sum up, the skimmer permits the removal of most part of biodegradable substances before they start to transform in pollutants.
The numerous tests performed in the last years show that the use of the skimmer in a marine tank is basic since it helps in simulating the chemical conditions characterizing the open sea, constituting a good starting point for successful fish and invertebrates breeding.
The skimmer working principle is quite simple, consisting in the introduction of water mixed with a high quantity of very fine (sub-millimetrical) air bubbles within a cylindrical column, named contact column. The air bubbles interact with the organic compounds present in the water for electrostatic attraction on their surface, carrying them toward the surface in the form of foam; once reached the column surface, foam separates from water, comes out of the column and accumulates in a removable cup. The cup needs to be periodically emptied and cleaned.
Three different kind of commercial skimmers do exist, depending on the method used for the production of bubbles within the contact column:

Diffusion method by means of a porous piece of lime-wood;
Suction method, or Nedle weel;
Injection method, or Venturi.

In any case, in order to have an effective foam action, bubbles should not be characterized by a too small or a too large diameter. In the first case, indeed, bubbles can not rapidly rise toward the surface and tend to dissolve too early. On the contrary, in the second case, bubbles would rise too fast and, would also tend to join in bigger bubbles; it would result in a lower surface active for interaction with organic components and, as a consequence, a lower production of foam on the water surface. This is the reason why it is basic to pay attention in bubbles dimension: the optimal diameter of bubbles should be in the interval 0.5-0.8 mm.

In addition to what above described (organic substances removal, better hygienic conditions), other important advantages are connected to the use of the skimmer: increase of dissolved oxygen level, pH stabilization, removal of phenols and all other substances that cause the yellow water colouring, removal of toxins emitted by corals, suspended particles (increasing water clearness) and other urticant substances, allowing a better fish and invertebrates breeding. On the other hand, the use of the skimmer also cause some drawback, such as removal of nitrobacteria and other oligo-elements present in the treated water. However, oligo-elements can be easily re-introduced in the tank by regular water changes, by using high-quality sea salt and, in case, by using saline integrators (see the SALINO range of products) that allow to restore the optimal concentrations for organism’s growth and proliferation. In the same way, bacteria needed for the good working of biological filters can be introduced in the tank by means of BACTERYA products, consisting in phials containing high concentrations of nitrobacteria.

REMOVER S-600
After two years of research and lab tests, E’quo set up the REMOVER S-600 skimmer, characterized by high-performances and designed for aquaria up to 600 liters.
Particular attention has been paid in the choice of materials (entirely in Plexiglas) and in the manufacture (REMOVER S-600 is completely produced by hand by master craftsman). Moreover REMOVER S-600 permits a easy maintenance since all parts may be disassembled and cleaned individually.
REMOVER S-600 works by using a Venturi injector; the injector is the heart of the skimmer and it is produced by lathe from a solid Plexiglas bloc. The injector has been designed to guarantee the production micro-bubbles of the optimal dimensions and a perfect air/water mixing in the contact column, allowing our skimmer to reach extraordinary performances.
The foam formation of REMOVER S-600 is highly effective, but at the same time quite gentle; the use of a Venturi injector avoid water break up (as usually happens in skimmers using brush rotors), and, consequently, the occurrence of precipitation and plankton breaking.
REMOVER S-600 is activated by a powerful and reliable pump (EHEIM COMPACT+3000); pump spare parts are easily available on the market.

The LINEA60 90 and LINEA60 130 E’quo tanks include REMOVER S-600 as standard equipment.
